Sixty Years of Engineering at UTA
For 60 years, UTA’s College of Engineering has served North Texas as the most comprehensive engineering school in the region. From its humble beginnings, the College has grown to a Carnegie Foundation Research-1 powerhouse, offering 11 bachelor’s, 14 master’s and 9 doctoral degree programs in seven departments.
Enrollment doubled from 2008 to 2016, setting new records each year and surpassing 7,000 students in 2016. Now, with more than 7,200 students from 71 countries and more than 34,000 alumni worldwide the College is a major contributor to the engineering workforce and economic well-being of the region. Our graduates work for many of the world’s largest corporations and government agencies and we count two NASA astronauts, Brig. Gen. Robert L. Stewart and Kalpana Chawla, among our alumni.
Research expenditures in the College have increased steadily in the past decade and now exceed $35 million, with engineering-related expenditures University-wide topping $50 million.
We’ve accomplished a lot in 60 years, and it’s only the beginning. We continue to innovate and explore, and invite you to do so along with us for many years to come.
