| Title: | NEXTGEN ECG: AN ACTIVE SUCTION CUP-SUPPORTED ECG ELECTRODE SYSTEM |
| Abstract: | The ECG device presented incorporates the idea of a suction system with a conductive metal electrode to overcome the detachment of ECG electrodes from the patient's body while taking readings. Inspired by the tentacles of an octopus, we aimed to design an array of suction cups that would surround a conductive metal electrode. The presence of multiple suction cups ensures that the device does not fall off the skin. The metal electrode is placed at the center of the suction cups to maintain continuous contact with the skin. The suction cups are made up of biocompatible silicone resin. A vacuum chamber surrounds the electrode and is attached to the suction cup array. The vacuum chamber has holes that align with that of the suction cups and is connected to an external vacuum pump with an adjustable vacuum mechanism allowing us to adjust the suction force depending on the patient's comfort. To prevent any damage to the skin, the upper limit for the active suction has been taken into consideration. This device is meant to replace the traditional adhesive gel electrodes and offer a more reliable, efficient way to carry out ECG stress tests, reducing patient discomfort upon electrode detachment and being more robust to sweat and the presence of body hair. |
