Title: Optimizing Porous Lattice Structures for Additive Manufacturing in High-Performance Engineering Applications
Abstract: The project investigates the impact of porosity in the design and additive manufacturing (AM) of lattice structures intended for aircraft applications. As the aviation industry seeks to enhance fuel efficiency and performance, innovative approaches to component design are crucial. This research focuses on creating and analyzing porous lattice structures with varying degrees of porosity, which can be tailored to provide specific mechanical properties while reducing overall weight. Undergraduate students will engage in the design of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models, perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and fabricate prototypes to optimize these structures for use in aerospace applications. The outcomes of this project have the potential to contribute significantly to advancements in aircraft design and manufacturing.
