Title: Graphene-based Nanocomposites for Enhanced Energy Electrodes
Abstract: This research project will test the properties of electrode and membrane materials with graphene and graphene oxide. Graphene and graphene oxide, a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb structure, has gained a lot of attention for its capability to enhance the mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of the host materials. One application for these enhancements is battery, fuel cell and electrolyzer cells, which are foundations for Building Energy Sustainability for the Future. In the proposed study, graphene will be initially deposited to make electrode layers with enhanced structural properties and electrical conductivity, and second, membranes will be made with a dielectric form of graphene compound with an improved strength and ion conductivity.
