Title: MULTI-AXIS POSITIONING STAGE (M.A.P.S.) FOR OPTICAL SENSOR VALIDATION
Abstract: The objective of this project is to design and integrate a multi-axis positioning stage optimized for optical sensor validation. The stage will have five separate degrees of freedom to position a validation board with optical sensor DUTs (devices under test) within a test chamber. The degrees of freedom include three linear translation axes (x, y, and z) and two rotation axes (φ and θ). A partially built positioning stage with only z and θ degrees of freedom was provided by the sponsor as the project's starting point. The new design will add commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) motorized stages for x, y, and φ motions and switch out the old θ stage motor for a higher performance one that meets the project requirements. The aim of the new design is to enable accurate and repeatable positioning of the DUTs for rigorous automated sensor testing. The project deliverables include a fully functional motorized positioning stage that meets all requirements, schematics and CAD (computer aided design) models of the stage, a stage driver software written in Python, and a detailed report of the stage's specifications and capabilities.
