| Title: | Maximum Airtime Autogyro Designs |
| Abstract: | Maximum Airtime Autogyro Designs (MAAD) is developing a 3D-printed autogyro to challenge a fixed-wing category rule in the 3D Printed Aircraft Competition. The current rule mandates that all lifting surfaces be fixed, which limits innovations. MAAD proposes an amendment allowing lifting surfaces to be fixed or unpowered, to encourage the exploration of new flight dynamics and propulsion techniques. The team will design and manufacture an autogyro capable of continuous flight for over one minute. The autogyro will be powered for a maximum of eight continuous seconds. The aircraft will operate within a 300x160x60-ft. flight volume and be hand-launched. The development process includes conceptual design, CAD modeling, structural and aerodynamic simulations, material selection, manufacturing, assembly, and flight testing. Iterative design refinements will ensure the aircraft meets performance goals. The objective is to achieve the longest flight time in the fixed-wing category and advocate for competition rule changes or a new category, demonstrating the potential of 3D printing in aerospace innovation. |
