Department: MAE
Project Type: Senior Design
Title: ASHRAE 2025 Design Competition
Abstract: The HVAC system design for a medical office facility in Manchester, England, has progressed to the system selection phase. With the successful completion of the first phase, WaterHVAC has determined the required heat load calculations to ensure an appropriately sized system. Now, in the second phase of the project, WaterHVAC will evaluate and compare the following three systems:
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), Packaged DX Technology, and Air-Cooled Chiller. Each of these systems has been widely implemented in facilities of similar size and function, making them strong candidates for this project.
As part of this phase, the client will receive a comprehensive assessment of each system, including: Life cycle cost analysis, sustainability analysis and mechanical floor plans. Additionally, WaterHVAC will provide a detailed technical report outlining the evaluation methods and criteria used, as well as how each system aligns with the owner's project requirements. The project remains on schedule for completion by the end of April and is progressing well within the allotted budget.
