| Title: | Can Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Air Cleaners Improve Indoor Air Quality and Student Outcomes |
| Abstract: | Indoor air quality (IAQ) significantly impacts student health and academic performance. With increasing concerns over airborne pollutants, cost-effective solutions like do-it-yourself (DIY) air cleaners have gained attention. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of DIY air cleaners in improving IAQ and their impact on student outcomes through both laboratory and classroom field testing. Laboratory testing will assess pollutant removal efficiency, focusing on particulate matter (PM2.5), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and carbon dioxide (CO2) levels under controlled conditions. Field testing in classrooms will measure real-world IAQ improvements and their effects on student health, cognitive performance, and engagement. IAQ sensors will continuously monitor air pollutant levels before and after deploying DIY air cleaners. Student outcomes will be evaluated through attendance records, surveys on health symptoms (e.g., allergies and headaches), and cognitive function tests. Findings will provide insights into the feasibility of DIY air cleaners as a low-cost solution for improving IAQ in schools and enhancing student well-being, academic performance, and classroom engagement. |
