Title: 2024-2025 Raytheon Drone Competition
Abstract: This project is for a competition and focuses on developing an autonomous unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) that works in tandem with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to complete a series of scouting and payload delivery challenges. Three engineering disciplines, electrical, mechanical/aerospace, and computer science, will collaborate in a team environment to develop autonomous vehicles. The objective is to optimize autonomy and coordination between the vehicles to complete the series of scouting and payload delivery challenges imposed by Raytheon Technologies. Students will compete against other universities to showcase their innovation and creativity by tackling each challenge. The scope of the project involves designing efficient navigation algorithms, developing precise ArUco marker detection methods with computer vision, and building a reliable peer-to-peer communication system between the two vehicles. Additionally, the project also involves selecting and integrating flight controllers, companion computers, GPS modules, camera systems, telemetry radios, and payload delivery mechanisms to ensure reliability and performance completing the objective. Ideally, the students will develop skills applicable to solving real life challenges.
