| Title: | 3D Printed Fixed Wing Aircraft |
| Abstract: | This senior design project focuses on the design, simulation, and fabrication of a 3D-printed fixed-wing aircraft for the 2025 Altair Aircraft Competition. The aircraft is an RC glider-style plane with a motor-driven propeller and control surfaces for maneuverability. The team is optimizing aerodynamic performance and structural integrity using CAD modeling and engineering simulations. The aircraft will be manufactured using printed carbon fiber composites and an HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) printer to enhance strength-to-weight efficiency. Early prototypes will be fabricated using smaller FDM 3D printers in modular sections with interference fits, while the final design will be produced using powder bed fusion for improved mechanical properties. Structural validation includes stress analysis under self-weight conditions to assess durability. Electrical integration features a battery eliminator circuit, a handheld transmitter, and a receiver controlling the propulsion and control systems. By leveraging advanced additive manufacturing techniques, this project aims to push the boundaries of 3D-printed aerospace structures. The final deliverable will be a fully functional RC aircraft that demonstrates structural integrity, aerodynamic efficiency, and manufacturability using cutting-edge 3D printing methods. |
