Title: Recycled Thermoplastics for a Circular Economy Approach: Case Study of a Wind Energy Generator for UTA Campus
Abstract: Polymers are essential to modern society due to their versatility, lightweight properties, and cost-efficiency. However, the rapid growth of plastic waste presents a serious global environmental concern. This project highlights the importance of recycling as a key approach to sustainable plastic management, aligning with the principles of a circular economy. The team will design and manufacture a vertical axis wind turbine to be installed on the UTA campus. This turbine will function as a phone charging station, providing an eco-friendly solution to energy needs. In an effort to contribute to a more sustainable future, the project will incorporate recycled thermoplastics into the turbine's rotor and other components. This approach not only helps reduce plastic waste but also demonstrates innovative applications for recycled materials in engineering projects. By integrating sustainability into both design and functionality, the project supports UTA's commitment to achieving its environmental and sustainability goals, while also offering a practical solution to plastic pollution.
