Title: Optimization of Biopsy Tissue Retrieval via Forceps Restructuring for Gastrointestinal Endoscopies in Pediatric Patients
Abstract: A flexible endoscope is a versatile medical device designed for internal body examinations and procedural interventions. It consists of a long, bendable tube with a flexible tip that is inserted into the body. Endoscopes are predominantly used for gastrointestinal examinations, such as colonoscopies and upper endoscopies. A critical component of the endoscope is the biopsy forceps, which are threaded through the instrument's channel and manipulated to grasp, cut, and retrieve tissue samples. However, current challenges with biopsy forceps include inadequate sample collection due to cross-contamination and tissue adhesion to the instrument. These issues are particularly problematic in pediatric endoscopies, where precise sample retrieval is critical. Addressing these limitations requires innovations that enhance cutting efficiency, reduce procedural costs and contamination risks, and improve overall tissue retrieval outcomes.
