Title: Wireless Laser Power Transmission
Abstract: This project presents the design and implementation of a Laser Power Transmission (LPT) system capable of transmitting electrical energy wirelessly through a directed laser beam to a photovoltaic receiver (PV) with enough power to charge a drone. The purpose of this system is to demonstrate wireless power transfer that could one day charge drones, sensors, or equipment in remote or hazardous environments. The LPT system converts electrical power into optical energy using a high-powered laser diode array. The beam is then expanded and directed toward a PV receiver that reconverts it into electrical power. This involves becoming familiar with PV technology, lasers, and optical systems to achieve the goal. In this project, we will also implement safety systems for the high-powered lasers, an array of sensors for the safety of all electronic devices, and a battery charging system.
