Title: Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Osteogenic Differentiation Mediated by Photobiomodulation (1064nm)
Abstract: Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses low-level infrared light to stimulate biological processes and holds promise as a non-invasive therapeutic tool. This project will evaluate whether PBM at 1064 nm influences the differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) toward bone-forming osteoblasts. Undergraduate student Preston Hoang will culture ADSCs, apply PBM treatments of varying durations, and monitor osteogenic progression using imaging and biochemical staining techniques. The study will clarify whether PBM accelerates, inhibits, or otherwise modulates osteogenesis, providing insight into its potential applications in bone regeneration. Results will contribute to understanding PBM as a novel therapeutic strategy for conditions such as osteoporosis and bone fracture repair, while also providing hands-on research experience in stem cell handling and imaging.
