Title: Effect of Scan Path Modifications on Defect Control and Mechanical Performance in LPBF Tungsten
Abstract: This project is founded on the prior findings into the influence of single-exposure scan strategies, conducted at various scan angles, on the mechanical response of pure LPBF tungsten. Extending the previous work on single-exposed LPBF, this project focuses on the role of an additional scan path of different orientations functioning as a pre-heating pass in tailoring the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of tungsten components. The research will be conducted in the Innovative Additive Manufacturing (IAM) Lab at the University of Texas at Arlington, where a team of undergraduate students will gain invaluable hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing techniques and materials characterization by observing the fabrication steps and performing necessary preparations for samples for characterization and mechanical testing. The findings will provide crucial insights into the dynamic relationship of mechanical response to differently oriented scanned LPBF tungsten, benefiting industries that require high-performance materials for specific application.
