Title: Expandable Anchoring System to Prevent GJ-Tube Dislodgment in Pediatric Patients
Abstract: Gastrojejunostomy (GJ) tube dislodgement is a common, costly complication in pediatric patients who cannot tolerate gastric feeding, often leading to repeated procedures and interruptions in nutrition and medication delivery. Despite its prevalence, effective prevention of the distal tip displacement remains a clinical challenge. The purpose of this project is to develop an anchoring device designed to prevent dislodgment of the distal tip of the gastrojejunostomy tube while maintaining full functionality. This study aims to develop a system that enables the endoscopist to secure the GJ-tube within the small intestine by externally applying tension to a wire extending outward from the proximal attachment at the J-port. When tension is applied, it activates an expansion mechanism at the distal tip, anchoring the tube securely in place in the small intestine. The specific objectives are to ensure resistance to gastric fluids over 1-10 weeks, allow 100% passage of gastric and biliary contents into the small intestine, maintain placement within 5 cm of original placement in the small intestine, and permit compression and expansion of the distal attachment after three months. Ultimately, this device will enhance pediatric care by ensuring consistent delivery of nutrition and medication.
