| Title: | Monitoring and Predicting Grid-Based Crop Yield Dynamics for Site-Specific Zone Management |
| Abstract: | Monitoring and predicting crop yield dynamics at a fine spatial scale play a pivotal role in site-specific zone management towards precision agriculture. When optimizing management choices, such as seed density and fertilizer application rates, the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of characteristics in a specific field presents challenges. This proposed REU project aims to overcome this challenge by conducting a series of data-driven analyses to better understand the spatial and temporal variabilities within individual farms as well as the impacts of various factors on crop yield production. The research team consists of three undergraduate students from industrial and computer science engineering. The outcomes of this research include the development of a database containing agricultural data - such as yield data, remote sensing data, soil and terrain attributes, weather information - collected from diverse sources, analysis for yield monitoring using statistical process monitoring methods, and prediction of crop yield dynamics through multiple machine learning algorithms. In addition, a decision support framework is conceptualized to enable informed decision-making in site-specific management at the zone level for farmers towards achieving better crop yield outcomes. |
