Title: Water quality modeling of nature-based solutions using WASP
Abstract: Nature-based solutions (NBS) are increasingly recognized as sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches for enhancing surface water quality. This study utilizes historical monitoring data to understand the performances of different types of Water Quality Parameters and their fluctuations over a period of time by using the water quality analysis simulation program (WASP), a process-based water quality modeling framework to assess the performance of selected NBS in reducing total suspended solids (TSS), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) and also other water quality parameters in receiving waterbodies. Benbrook Lake Watershed is selected as the case study area. Model calibration and validation are performed using historical monitoring data to ensure reliable representation of hydrodynamic and biogeochemical processes. The findings demonstrate the capability of WASP as a decision- support tool for quantifying water quality improvements associated with NBS and highlight its potential application in sustainable watershed management.
