Title: Optimizing Spare Parts Management at SLB
Abstract: In maintenance-driven production environments, having the right spare part available at the right time is critical. When parts are missing or difficult to locate, maintenance is delayed, equipment remains down longer than necessary, and production efficiency suffers. This capstone project focuses on strengthening spare parts inventory management for five high-impact part categories supporting honing machine operations. Using historical CMMS data, we will analyze demand patterns and lead time variability to develop optimized reorder point (ROP) and safety stock models. The project will also evaluate barcode-based tracking to improve inventory visibility and standardize how parts are logged and retrieved. Our goal is to reduce downtime attributed to spare part unavailability by at least 7% within three months while improving inventory accuracy to 95% or higher. By applying practical industrial engineering methods to a real operational challenge, this project aims to create a sustainable and scalable inventory control process that improves maintenance responsiveness and overall operational reliability.
