Title: Raytheon 2025-2026 “Operation Touchdown” competition
Abstract: For the Raytheon 2025-2026 “Operation Touchdown” competition, the project involved the design and fabrication of an autonomous unmanned air vehicle (UAV) and an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) platform. The mechanical engineering objective was to design and fabricate a platform that would endure the challenges of the competition and where complex sensor integration, propulsion systems, and electrical wiring mounting were possible for autonomous coordination. The UGV chassis was printed using Nylon-CF12 for its stiffness, a comprehensive study on springs for its suspension was conducted, showing that the 9.50lb/in for the rear and 12.50lb/in for the front suspension were the ideal ones. A 0.048’’ mild steel sheet metal was chosen for the landing platform. The UAV chassis was made from square carbon fiber tubing for rigidity and custom cut carbon fiber plates. The T-motor F100 1100Kv and 8in propellers were chosen for its propulsion system. This was an interdisciplinary team collaboration between the mechanical, electrical and computer science engineering senior design teams. Some of the highlight tests from the electrical and computer science teams did include battery testing from the chosen batteries and calibration of the autonomous software for both the UAV and UGV to complete their autonomous mission.
