| Title: | Design and Characterization of 3D Printed Optimization-Driven Aeroelastically Scaled Wind Tunnel Model for High Aspect Ratio Flying Wings |
| Abstract: | Researchers are currently studying ways to suppress body freedom flutter in flying wings. 3D printed wind tunnel models coupled with optimization provide an innovative iterative cost-effective approach compared to traditional manufacturing. In addition to reducing development time and cost, 3D-printed models offer the potential to integrate passive flutter suppression mechanisms directly into the wing structure. Characterization of the wing including geometric, modal, and aerodynamic is necessary to validate the wing design and ensure accurate aeroelastic performance predictions. This work presents characterization of the X-56 wing through scanning, GVT, and initial wind tunnel testing. |
