| Abstract: | The Student Team for Recumbent Innovation, Knowledge, and Endurance (S.T.R.I.K.E.) has been working on redesigning the frame of an aluminum recumbent trike. The redesign will conceptualize carbon fiber components with the attempt to get a lighter performance focused frame which utilizes forged carbon fiber to achieve complex geometry with the strength characteristics and benefits of carbon fiber. The work demonstrated in the project includes manufacturing and testing data of forged carbon fiber joints, engineering design of the prototype frame, and analysis of carbon fiber as a structural member. |
