Title: ASHRAE HVAC Design Calculations
Abstract: The Peak Air Solutions team is participating in the 2026 ASHRAE HVAC Design Calculations competition as a part of our senior design project. This project entails modeling and selecting an appropriate HVAC system for a theoretical university building in the Denver, Colorado area. This building is 3 stories high with a total area of 93,000 square feet. This building includes classrooms, offices, workshops, labs, computer rooms, electrical/mechanical rooms, and more. Owner requirements, floor plans, weather data, and a list of required standards have been provided by ASHRAE for use in the competition. Our team's goal is to design a suitable HVAC system for this building taking into account reliability, efficiency, and environmental impact among other factors. To help us with this, we are utilizing the following programs: Bluebeam Revu, Hourly Analysis Program (HAP), and Revit. These programs are used to annotate the given floor plans, calculate the heating, cooling, and other related loads in the building, and import the selected system into this building respectively. The task list for this project includes floor plan annotation, load calculation, HVAC system selection, creating a 3D model of the building (including the selected system), and finalizing the HVAC system design.
