Entrepreneurship in Engineering

Through a gift from a generous alumnus, the Maverick Entrepreneur Program and Award Fund provides significant financial support for the entrepreneurial efforts of business and engineering students at UTA. This fall, activities culminate in the Maverick Business Pitch competition. The prizes for winning teams will be $10,000 in venture development funds.

Students will be mentored by Dr. Robert Magnusson and Dr. Chris McMurrough in the College of Engineering, or through the College of Business if competing with a team of business students. More engineering mentors will be available as the program continues.

The entrepreneurship program will continue throughout next year with additional pitch competitions. The winning teams from these competitions will receive further development funds to be announced next semester. For the best chance of being able to advance with prospects for further venture development funds, you must register this fall for the Maverick Business Pitch competition.

Engineering students who wish to continue to compete must enroll in Dr. Magnusson’s ENGR 4302/5302 class in spring 2019 or in an independent study class with a sponsoring instructor in Engineering – Dr. Magnusson, Dr. McMurrough and others to be announced.

Student teams who compete in the Maverick Business Pitch Competition this fall in Engineering will also participate in a pitch competition during the College of Engineering Innovation Day on April 15.
