| Title: | DFW Airport ACES Optimization |
| Abstract: | Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving approximately 86 million passengers annually across five terminals, 16 security checkpoints, and 165 gates (DFW, n.d.). Supporting this complex operational environment are the Airport Customer Experience Staff (ACES), who provide passenger assistance, monitor terminal conditions, and support day-to-day operations to maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment. As passenger demand fluctuates throughout the day, aligning ACES staffing with peak operational needs presents an ongoing challenge for airport management. Currently, ACES are transitioning from a 4-day, 10-hour work schedule to a 5-day, 8-hour schedule to improve coverage and better match staffing levels with passenger demand patterns. This project applies the DMAIC methodology to define the staffing problem, identify key stakeholders and customer requirements, and analyze operational data to understand workload distribution across terminals and time periods. Using insights derived from checkpoint performance metrics, including forward exits and queue length indicators, a linear programming optimization model will be developed to determine the optimal allocation of ACES across terminals. The model aims to evaluate staffing effectiveness under both scheduling structures and support data-driven decision-making that improves coverage during peak demand while maintaining operational efficiency. |
