Title: Selective Laser Sintering of Graphite/Nylon Composites Using Recovered Graphite from Li-ion Battery Recycling
Abstract: This project establishes a sustainable pathway to use graphite recovered from Li-ion battery “black mass” by integrating it into selective laser sintered (SLS) nylon-12 (PA12) composites. Conventional graphite fillers are typically sourced from virgin materials, which contributes to cost, environmental impact, and resource depletion. By leveraging recycled graphite as a functional reinforcement in polymer composites, this work contributes to sustainable manufacturing and circular economy. The proposed project will evaluate the printability, microstructure, mechanical performance, and electric conductivity of nylon composites with recycled graphite compared to commercial graphite. This project will advance both additive manufacturing (AM) science and Li-ion battery recycling utilization, while also creating pathways for workforce development in sustainable manufacturing.
