Title: Zenith
Abstract: Manual syringe preparation and administration in pre-hospital emergency medicine is a time-consuming multistep process and prone to human error, lack of traceability, variability, and risk of increasing the risk of dosage inaccuracy and inefficiency in treatment administering infusion drugs. To address these limitations, Zenith was developed as a uniform computer-assisted syringe filling system engineered to improve precision, repeatability, and operational speed of emergency medicine personnel. Zenith is controlled by a microcontroller-based architecture that enables programmable volume selection integrated with a linear potentiometer calibrated control algorithm to display plunger displacement. Furthermore, a touchscreen interface running custom-developed software enables programmable volume selection and embeds local medication protocols, reducing reliance on manual calculations and improving workflow consistency. Mechanical components were specifically designed to secure standard syringes while minimizing vibrational movement. Performance was evaluated through repeated multi-time segment dispensing trials, demonstrating that Zenith significantly improves medication volume consistency, accuracy, and reduces operator dependence. This developed system offers a cost-effective, scalable solution for computer-assisted manual syringe preparation in emergency medicine workflows, with future iterations focusing on miniaturization, closed-loop feedback, and regulatory compliance.
