| Title: | Lockheed Adaptive UAS |
| Abstract: | The Lockheed Adaptive UAS project aims to create a semi-autonomous drone capable of fulfilling multiple independent mission profiles including roles such as search and rescue (SAR), security, and inspection. The UAS must be capable of quickly and easily hot-swapping modules such that an operator with minimal training can immediately change the drone’s intended mission. The designed UAS features a magnetic interlocking mechanism using CAN communication protocol to allow the operator to hot-swap modules without failure while providing a robust mounting system resistant to shaking and vibration during flight. The modules feature a spotlight for security operations, a deliverable payload to provide immediate relief in rescue operations, and a bird’s eye view camera for facility and roof inspection. The base UAS includes both a high-quality camera and a FLIR camera to ensure good visibility in day and night operations. Multiple redundant communication devices have been added allowing the drone to communicate with a laptop ground control station in ISM bands including an ultra long-range radio, a long-range HD video transmission and control system, and a short-range 4K video transmission system for excellent close-range video feed during inspection. The semi-autonomous control scheme allows operators to preset flight plans or take manual control. |
