Title: Digital Twinning Microstructures of Additively Manufactured Materials
Abstract: The microstructures of materials from additive manufacturing (AM) have a profound effect on the final properties of the materials. To predict the effective properties, finite element (FE) models are often used as digital twins of these microstructures. This project will develop algorithms to reconstruct FE models of the microstructures based on the key features (e.g., micro-voids). The developed models will have the equivalent mechanical properties of the original microstructures. The effective properties of the digital twins will be computed by a novel multiscale model. This project will enable a better understanding of microstructure-property relation for AM processes.
