Austen Smith competing in Olympic Skeet Shooting

Maverick Olympian

Austen Smith took a break from her aerospace engineering studies last semester to prepare for a different kind of challenge: the Olympics. The 20-year-old Keller, Texas, native competed in women’s skeet shooting for Team USA at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, ultimately finishing 10th. Smith took up shooting in junior high school. Her pre-Olympics resume included a gold medal in women’s skeet and a bronze in mixed team skeet at the International Shooting Sport Federation’s World Cup event in Lonato, Italy, earlier this year; a silver at the Junior World Championship in 2017 and a bronze in 2018; and junior individual and junior mixed team golds at a World Cup event in 2019.
