Diversity Leader

Sherri Kermanshachi, associate professor of civil engineering, won the 2022 Leaders in Diversity Award from the Dallas Business Journal.

The publication selected 11 individuals and five companies for the award based on their exceptional commitment to promoting practices that advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Honorees also demonstrated leadership and bolstered equality across all areas of diversity, including age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, and religion.

"I am humbled at receiving this prestigious award," Dr. Kermanshachi says. "It means so much to be recognized for helping and encouraging diversity and supporting women along in this world."

Kermanshachi has published several articles that evaluate gender-based pay gaps for women across engineering fields. She also has performed multiple research and outreach projects to boost participation of women and other minorities in the field and has investigated barriers to involvement for women. She spends significant time encouraging female K-12 students to pursue higher education and engineering careers.
