Students Recruiting Students

Recruiting is an integral part of maintaining the College of Engineering's healthy growth, but with only two full-time recruiters, it is difficult to complete all the tasks necessary to reach potential students. That's where the Engineering Student Ambassadors come in.

The group of about 12 engineering students fills the gaps—answering phone calls and email queries, visiting local high schools, leading tours, presenting at events, meeting students one-on-one, and writing hundreds of messages on postcards to potential students.

From September 2021 to May 2022, the ambassadors led 74 campus tours, visited 11 schools, and assisted at over 67 events, engaging with 2,583 potential students.

"The outreach possible with this cadre of Engineering Student Ambassadors has increased our involvement with students dramatically since I arrived in 2017," says Lin Larson, the college's director of student recruitment. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ambassadors held online info sessions, game nights, and one-on-one meetings with students and families. We would not be successful without them. We rely on their knowledge, ability to relate to students, and their own student experience stories."
