Alumnus Cites University for Helpling Prepare Him
Fred Caver's ('69 BS, Civil Engineering) UTA education served him well as he rose to the top civilian position at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before his retirement in 2005.
After retiring as deputy director of civil works, Caver founded Caver and Associates, a consulting firm, which he ran until retiring again in 2021.
“I interacted with engineers at virtually every level in the U.S. and other countries and I believe that UTA equipped me well. My education stood up against anyone,” Caver says.
He kept an eye on UTA from afar and often felt that the Civil Engineering Department could become something greater. He is encouraged by the actions taken by Chair Melanie Sattler to build up the department.
“Dr. Sattler is doing a great deal to develop the department and its students,” he says. “She is proactive and engaged, and the department is looking at strategic initiatives that will make it stronger in the long run. I'm a fan.” ₪
