New Research Hub
UTA and USDA Launch Smart Agriculture Research Center
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has partnered with UTA to develop predictive tools that help food producers respond to biological threats through the Smart Agriculture Research Center, a new research hub using artificial intelligence and data science to tackle agriculture's most pressing challenges.
UTA faculty, students, and USDA scientists apply machine learning to challenges from predicting plant disease to modeling soil health to forecasting outbreaks of illnesses.
A major engine behind the center's work is a program that immerses students in federal agricultural research projects.
Each year, 20 to 25 students participate in a summer research experience where they are grouped into small teams, paired with a UTA faculty mentor and a USDA scientist, and challenged to tackle real agricultural data issues using AI and machine learning. ₪
