An Empty Campus
"Emptiness is the absence of some things, not the absence of everything"

Campus Update

The emptiness of the campus, especially the College of Engineering buildings, has been jarring. There has been an unsettling quiet—no hustle and bustle between classes, no noise from parking lots, no laughter from study groups in the Nedderman Hall atrium. However, as Mokokoma Mokhonoana, a South African author and comic, points out, just because the campus is empty doesn’t mean that nothing’s happening.

Teaching and research continue, new faculty and students visit campus, student organizations find creative ways to meet, and we find ourselves compelled to continue our pursuit of our work. We’re innovative. We’re intrepid. We’re Mavericks.
