Funding Makerspaces

Makerspaces are a key component to innovation and entrepreneurship, especially in university settings where students are inspired and encouraged to act on their ideas. Since 2018, the college has added four makerspaces, and a gift from Rachel (’82 BS, Computer Science) and David McKenzie (’80 BS, Electrical Engineering) will help with ongoing operating costs and provide support for student projects. “The cost of higher education is so high that we wanted to make it easier for students to do something meaningful,” Rachel McKenzie says. “It’s hard when you’re struggling to pay for school, so this is an incentive for them to push through.”
